We are hosting a South Indian Harvest Festival called “Pongal on the Farm” on Sunday the 19 January 2020. The objective of this event is to appreciate the important role farming plays in our lives.
Pongal is an age old South Indian Harvest Festival that is celebrated in grand style till today in many parts of the world. It ushers in the New Year with the hope of bringing prosperity and wellness to all.
It’s an annual opportunity in our culture, to appreciate our natural resources, the hard working farmers and the hard working farm animals who silently produce the food on our tables.
Unfortunately, Pongal has little significance to modern city folks these days. People, especially children are oblivious of who produces their food. And getting together to celebrate this ancient festival of Pongal, makes us realise and appreciate our natural resources and food producers.
It is with that in mind we have for the past 3 years taken the initiative to host Pongal in South Africa. It’s an opportunity for people to come together to meet fellow friends and families and enjoy in the festivity.
The 2016/2017 Pongal was an overwhelming success. With over 1100 people that attended in 2017.
Entrance is Free. Just bring your own picnic chairs, mats and food baskets and beverages. Being Pongal, food has to be strictly veg and no alcohol.
The farm venue is called Ground Zero Adventure Farm. It’s just 1km past Lanseria Airport, on the Pelindaba Road. The farm is on the boundary of the North West Province and will have feeding of farm animals, pony rides, river rafts and water slides. The activities include a variety of fun, games, song and dance. We also have a host of singers and dancers that will be performing.
This event is funded through exhibitors. So we call upon our business community to please support us by exhibiting.
